Assignments
Brainstorming
- Consider the assumptions of your concentration's discipline
- Brainstorm
20 ideas for possible capstone projects
- Refine 20 ideas to meet assumptions
of your concentration
Revision: Narrowing the Field
- Through group work, narrow the field to
your five best ideas
- Write a one-page summary for each idea. Include
the following:
- Define the Problem that the site intends to solve in a one sentence
overview
- Describe the site focus
- Describe the intended audience
- Outline the site content
- Describe the navigational strategy
- Describe the design strategy, what the visual look of the site
will convey and how you intend to do that
- Describe the production strategy (will you link pages only; include
sound, video, animation; use java script behaviors; include
slide shows, forms, or other kinds of content beyond text and image,
etc.)
- Share your summaries and through group work, eliminate two ideas.
Creative Strategy Outlines
- Revise your summaries on two ideas and develop
outlines that describe your project to your prospective client.
Thumbnail Roughs
- Develop thumbnail roughs for both of your ideas. Scan your drawn roughs
for inclusion on your site proposal.
Digital Roughs
- Prepare an digital rough of your homepage (this can be a jpeg or gif
without functionality, with or without description about how it will
work), of secondary pages and of tertiary pages. This roughs should be
templates for how your site might look.
Designing the Proposal
- Prepare a website that presents your ideas to your client(s) and
documents your ideation process.
- Include your brainstorming, one page summaries, creative strategy
outlines, thumbnail roughs, and digital roughs.
- Organize your proposal so that the client sees the "final" proposal
first but has the option to explore your earlier ideation.
- Design this site to visually enhance your prospects of the client
choosing your proposal. Be professional!
